The chameleon effect refers to our unconscious matching of the postures, mannerisms, facial expressions, and other behaviors of our social environment. It has\u00a0evolved as a way to help us get along with others.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most noticeable forms of mirroring is yawning &#8211; one person starts and others follow.<\/p>\n<div class=\"field-item odd\">\n<p>The perfect description of the chameleon effect is the clich\u00e9 saying:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;Imitation is the best form of flattery.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mimicking another&#8217;s body language increases our likeability. A study by\u00a0<a title=\"We're All Copycats\" href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/articles\/199911\/were-all-copycats\">Bargh &amp; Burrows<\/a> found <strong>those who pay more attention mimic more and make more friends in the process.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By mimicking other people\u2019s actions, we cause them to develop positive feelings toward us. Mimicry is not only for face-to-face encounters.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Applying_the_Chameleon_Effect\"><\/span><strong>Applying the Chameleon Effect<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Mimicry is a form of social glue. When we mimic the same behavior as our customers, it helps us understand how they\u00a0feel.
