I recently collaborated on a blog post with the conference social media manager, Cindy Molchany, entitled <a title=\"Permalink to The Biggest Missed Opportunity in Wine Tourism Marketing\" href=\"http:\/\/winetourismconference.org\/%25page%25\/the-biggest-missed-opportunity-in-wine-tourism-marketing\/\">The Biggest Missed Opportunity in Wine Tourism Marketing<\/a>. Can you guess what that missed opportunity is? Storytelling. Surprised?\u00a0 I am not.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/traveloregon.com\/see-do\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3247\" title=\"Travel Oregon\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.dlvr.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/traveloregan_eatdrink-300x207.png\" alt=\"Travel Oregon Tells It's Story Through Compelling Content\" width=\"300\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/traveloregan_eatdrink-300x207.png 300w, https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/traveloregan_eatdrink-1024x708.png 1024w, https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/traveloregan_eatdrink.png 1196w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> While reading the online news this morning, an ad caught my eye from the <a title=\"The Oregon Tourism Commission, doing business as Travel Oregon, is a semi-independent agency created by the Oregon Legislature in 2003 to enhance Oregonians\u2019 quality of life by strengthening economic impacts of the state\u2019s $8.7 billion tourism industry.\" href=\"http:\/\/traveloregon.com\/see-do\/eat-drink\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oregon Tourism Commission, Travel Oregon<\/a>.\u00a0 I\u2019m a frequent traveler to our dlvr.it office in Portland and was intrigued.\u00a0 I quickly decided to click since it appeared to be relevant to my recent\u00a0blog post.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, I was\u00a0impressed. \u00a0The site perfectly illustrates the opportunity tourism commissions have to create compelling content.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s packed\u00a0with pictures, videos, guide books and more. The content seamlessly tells the story of Oregon. You might know Oregon for its great outdoors but what I found so perfectly fitting is Travel Oregon\u2019s foc<a href=\"http:\/\/traveloregon.com\/ask-oregon\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3250\" title=\"travel_oregon_ask a question\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.dlvr.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/travel_oregon_ask-a-question-300x233.png\" alt=\"Travel Oregon encourage visitor participation\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/travel_oregon_ask-a-question-300x233.png 300w, https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/travel_oregon_ask-a-question.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>us on the food. Portland has become the place to go for the best food in the United States. If you haven\u2019t experienced the food scene in Portland, you are in for a treat. And the <a title=\"One of my favorite coffee shops: Barista Portland, Oregon\" href=\"http:\/\/www.baristapdx.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">coffee<\/a>!\u00a0 But, I digress.<\/p>\n<p>The site truly shows how Travel Oregon focuses on its customer <a title=\"4 Questions Answered about Buyer Personas\" href=\"http:\/\/www.contentmarketinginstitute.com\/2011\/04\/4-questions-answered-about-buyer-personas\/\" target=\"_blank\">personas<\/a>.\u00a0It covers an expansive breadth of interests from attractions, to recreation, to the wine scene, and more that would appeal to all types of visitors. It tells the story of Oregon through pictures and content. The brand gracefully extends into social media.<\/p>\n<p>Participation is encouraged.\u00a0 You can ask an Oregonian expert a question or tag your photos with <a title=\"Travel Oregon Hashtag on Twitter\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23traveloregon%20&amp;src=typd\" target=\"_blank\">#traveloregon <\/a>and it may be included in their Instagram feed.<\/p>\n<p>I would love to learn more about how the site came to be.
