Not to mention,\u00a0you can easily be overwhelmed just navigating\u00a0the plethora\u00a0of online social networks, websites and mobile apps where you have to update your business details\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Google Plus Local, Yelp, Citisearch, TripAdvisor, Urbanspoon, Angie&#8217;s List, Foursquare, Facebook, to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>There may well be over a hundred\u00a0plus\u00a0such sites\u00a0making up this list, but which one really matters?<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Benefits_of_Google_Plus_Local\"><\/span>Benefits of Google Plus Local<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Your business has to be on Google Plus Local if you want it notice. <\/strong>There I said it!<\/p>\n<p>According to Brett Nuckles, Tech Editor at Business News Daily:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The search giant&#8217;s social network is increasingly integrated with the entire Google ecosystem, from search to Maps to YouTube. Engaging with Google Plus isn&#8217;t just a way to share updates and deals with your customers; it&#8217;s also the best way to ensure they find your business in the first place.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_is_Google_Plus_Local_Vital_for_my_Small_Business\"><\/span><strong>Why is Google Plus Local Vital for my Small Business?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Being on Google Plus is a must for any small business because the platform works hand- in-hand with Google Search. Below are three reasons why this is important.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Most importantly, Potentially ranking higher on search results<\/li>\n<li>Equally important, Integration with relevant\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/2014\/12\/use-google-to-boost-business\/\">Google+ for Business<\/a>\u00a0services<\/li>\n<li>Not to mention\u00a0(for local businesses): Ability to draw customers in by providing key business information \u2014 such as location and directions, phone number, photos,\u00a0<strong>reviews<\/strong>\u00a0and more \u2014 right on search pages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a screenshot of my Google search for &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.communitycafesonoma.com\/?page_id=40\">Community Cafe Sonoma<\/a>&#8216; where I am currently enjoying breakfast\u00a0while writing this blog post (if you ever happen upon this fabulous cafe, I highly recommend the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonomamag.com\/hello-morning-delicious-starts-day\/#.VRt-ADvF_pA\">Truffled Eggs &amp; Toast<\/a>). As can be seen, the search results and Google review links are pretty prominent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Community-Cafe-Google-Results.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9189\" src=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Community-Cafe-Google-Results.png\" alt=\"Community Cafe in Sonoma, CA Google results page shows prominent reviews\" width=\"760\" height=\"483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Community-Cafe-Google-Results.png 1024w, https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Community-Cafe-Google-Results-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 760px) 100vw, 760px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Drilling down further, I searched within Google Plus itself for the Community Cafe. The results below show a screenshot of the Community Cafe Sonoma&#8217;s Google Plus Local page. First thing I noticed are\u00a0the enticing images. Then all the relevant decision-making information quickly pops out for the business:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Address<\/li>\n<li>Phone number<\/li>\n<li>Business hours<\/li>\n<li>Map pin<\/li>\n<li>Reviews<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Arguably, <strong>reviews<\/strong> are one of the more important pieces of information.\u00a0What is missing? Google&#8217;s 5-point scoring system gives you detailed insight into businesses before you visit, and Zagat summaries of user reviews help you decide where you want to go.<\/p>\n<p>With Google Plus Local, you can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Get place recommendations based on your circles, your past reviews, and your location<\/li>\n<li>Publish reviews and photos of your favorite places<\/li>\n<li>Read Zagat summaries of user reviews for a place<\/li>\n<li>View the local Google Plus page for a business to see reviews, photos, posts, and other useful information<\/li>\n<li>Find reviews from people you know and trust highlighted in your search results<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In other words, now you know why it&#8217;s important to have a Google Plus Local page. Leading to the questions &#8211;\u00a0What is obsolete? What is current? Where do I start?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Direct from Google&#8217;s mouth:<\/strong>\u00a0If you previously used Google Places for Business or Google Plus Pages Dashboard to manage your business information, your account has been automatically upgraded to <strong>Google My Business<\/strong>. Google helps by allowing you to search for assistance in creating a virtual tour on &#8216;Find your local Trusted Photographer or Agency&#8217;.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 5: Last Step. Verify your business.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Google will\u00a0ask you to verify your business\u00a0to make sure the information they\u00a0have is accurate. You may see one or several types of verification depending on the type of business you manage:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1. <strong>Verify by postcard<\/strong>. Google will\u00a0send a postcard with a verification code to the business address you provided. Make sure your address complies with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/business\/answer\/2853879\">address entry guidelines<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2. \u00a0<strong>Verify by phone<\/strong>.\u00a0Phone verification isn&#8217;t available for all businesses. If you don&#8217;t see this option when you attempt to verify, request a postcard instead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3. <strong>Instant verification.\u00a0<\/strong>You may be instantly verified to manage your business if you\u2019ve already <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/webmasters\/answer\/34592\">verified your business\u2019s website with Google Webmaster Tools<\/a>. To emphasize, make sure you\u2019re signed in to Google My Business with the same account you used to verify your site with Webmaster Tools. With this in mind, some business categories may not be eligible for instant verification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Final Step:<\/strong>\u00a0Once you\u2019ve verified, you may see a banner asking you to review your information and make any final changes. Click &#8216;<strong>Done editing&#8217;<\/strong> when you\u2019re certain everything is up to date.<\/p>\n<p>To summarize,\u00a0Once you\u2019ve verified your business information, updates you make to your local business &#8211; such as contact details, description, photos and business hours &#8211; are eligible to show up on Google Maps and other Google properties.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As a small business owner there is always something to do.
