It is something we set up once and forget.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your email signature is a powerful and an often overlooked marketing tool. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Your professional email signature\u00a0rides along with the hundreds of emails you\u00a0send every day. Before you run off to update yours, consider some of these surprising stats <a title=\"Every Contact\" href=\"http:\/\/Everycontact.com\">Every Contact<\/a> (formerly\u00a0WriteThat.name) compiled after analyzing 700 million emails:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>12% of people include <a title=\"How to Break 3 Social Media Bad Habits That Cause Followers to Unfollow Plus Solutions to Change\" href=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/2015\/03\/social-media-bad-habits\/\">social media<\/a> handles. However, regardless of how\u00a0dull the topic is,\u00a0keep in mind, your signature can be\u00a0the first impression a prospect sees. They may want to do some due diligence before picking up the phone to buy your product. Make it easy for them to find the information quickly by placing it in your signature block.<\/p>\n<p><strong>With over 500+ billion emails sent every day, you need to make your email signature stand out.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Importance_of_Email_Signatures\"><\/span>Importance of Email Signatures<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A person&#8217;s signature block says a lot about them. It is a balance between letting people know who you are and professionalism.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Create a branding opportunity for your business<\/li>\n<li>Establish a lasting first impression<\/li>\n<li>Provide quick access to your contact details (don&#8217;t make it hard for prospects to contact you)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Common_Mistakes_Found_in_an_Email_Signature\"><\/span>Common Mistakes Found in an\u00a0Email Signature<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the early days at\u00a0<a title=\"Social Media in Less Time\" href=\"http:\/\/dlvr.it\">dlvr.it<\/a>, we set-up a style guide for our email block. We considered it part of our branding &#8211; especially for those employees who were sending out lots of emails every day including customer service and sales. Here is an example of mine:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bill-Flitter-Email-Signature.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9316 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bill-Flitter-Email-Signature.jpg\" alt=\"Email Signature Example\" width=\"641\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bill-Flitter-Email-Signature.jpg 641w, https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/Bill-Flitter-Email-Signature-300x104.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My email signature is not perfect. As I started researching the topic of how to write an email signature, I came across an <a title=\"12 Common Mistages Your Making with Your Email Signature\" href=\"http:\/\/emailsignaturerescue.com\/news\/item\/12-common-mistakes-youre-making-with-your-email-signature\">article<\/a> by Email Signature Rescue that pointed out a few things I did wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three\u00a0common email signature mistakes:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Not hosting the logo on a web server<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Reason:<\/em>\u00a0An image not hosted can appear as an attachment in some email clients, or sometimes may not appear at all.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Text links to our different social pages<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Reason:<\/em> There are many social pages these days. While showcasing all of your social media pages can boost your customer&#8217;s confidence, presenting too much information in this format, is not easy for one to read.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not testing email signature in different email clients<br \/>\n<\/strong><em>Reason<\/em>: If you don&#8217;t check to make sure the HTML is cross-compatible with all the main email clients, your customers may be getting a very different version to what you think you are sending.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Anatomy_of_the_Perfect_Email_Signature\"><\/span>Anatomy of the Perfect Email Signature<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In my quest for the perfect email signature, the research pointed to following the five tips below:<a href=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/what_should_i_include_professional_email_signature.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9320 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/what_should_i_include_professional_email_signature.png\" alt=\"Characteristics of the perfect email signature\" width=\"598\" height=\"552\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/what_should_i_include_professional_email_signature.png 598w, https:\/\/dlvrit.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/what_should_i_include_professional_email_signature-300x277.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Include your name, role and business name<\/li>\n<li>Include a few of your best contact details, but not all of them<\/li>\n<li>Small images and logos work best<\/li>\n<li>Use subtle highlights to match your company branding<\/li>\n<li>Promote your social media pages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When it comes to email signatures, less is more. Your signature should convey your information, not distract from the substance of your e-mail.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Technical_Details_of_the_Email_Signature\"><\/span>Technical Details of the Email Signature<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>With the many email clients, there are some technical limitations to consider when composing your email. Web Designer, Kat Neville, suggests the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep each line in the signature to a maximum of 72 characters. Many email applications have a maximum width of 80 characters, so limit the length to avoid wrapping.<\/li>\n<li>If including a logo, keep it at or under 50&#215;50.
